Good Morning,
Uh huh. Uh Huh. I say UH HUH it's Friday. And it's a long weekend. It's Memorial Day Weekend. The beginning of summer. Yet there are still a few days of school remaining for most students. That needs to be changed. The school buses need to be full of paper today not next Thursday. Students need to be begging for two more points on their average today, not next week. Shirts need to be untucked and belts thrown into the back seat today, not sometime in June. Boy, I showed my age on that one. Oh well, summer will come in spite of everything. Hug a veteran, shake a veteran's hand, buy a little flower from the VFW folks outside the grocery store and tell them thanks. Knock the wars if you like, but don't dare knock our veterans - they don't start wars, they finish them. Thanks veterans and thanks to those families who gave one of their loved ones to the fight to keep us free. You are the embodiment of "home of the brave." Have a great weekend, everybody.
Gary Anderson, our Lutheran buddy, is having hernia surgery at Methodist right now and Jake Brewer will have shoulder surgery at 12:30 today at the same place. Donnie Onnen's grandmother's funeral will be today at 12:30pm in Pearland. Natalie Lombrana's thyroid treatment seem to go well yesterday, but she cherishes your prayers. Please pray for these folks and their families.
Disciple Now starts today at 6pm at the church fellowship hall with a great supper of junk food. Your young people are invited for a weekend of fun, learning and much more. Anybody in the 5th-12th grade is invited. The cost for the 40 hour adventure is $10.00. The Dnow will end at noon on Sunday. They need to bring a bedroll or sleeping bag, Bible, pen, notepad, personal hygiene items and clothes to hang out in and go to church on Sunday. The boys will stay in the home of Phillip and Mary Jo Weeks with Louie Gamino and Steven Hammock as their teachers and leaders and the girls will stay in the home of Jimmy and Annie Elliott with Marsha Fisher as their teacher and Terry Durham as her helper. I will stay in an apartment on the property at the Elliott home so the ladies will not be there without someone to call upon. Parents and guardians will be issued addresses and contact phone numbers tonight when the kids are dropped off at the church. Saturday afternoon the entire group will go to Kemah for fun in the sun. If you have further questions please call me at 281-831-6044 as Steven is working today. If I can't answer the questions, I will get with Steven. Please make every effort for your children to be involved in this weekend that is guaranteed to grow them spiritually.
Their will be a mission trip meeting of all adults involved directly or indirectly on Sunday at 4:30pm in the meeting room behind the foyer.
When you pray be very specific. Name your sins, name your specific needs, praise in very specific words and areas. A friend of mine told me last night at a meeting that an elderly prayer warrior at his church had told him years ago how to pray. She said, "if you pray for a hat, let God know what size and which color. That way He knows you really are interested in Him and the hat, too, because you took the time to get specific."
See you later. Thanks vets. Love, Ken
